Deficiency of Vitamin C leads to formation of spots on the skin or tiny pinpoint bruises, spongy gums and bleeding from all mucous membranes (linings which are involved in absorption and secretion). The spots are commonly present on the thighs and legs. Advanced stages of scurvy are characterized by wounds with pus, loss of teeth and death.
